EAT: A Lunch Date with Hornbill in KL Bird Park
November 03, 2017Many may have heard about KL Bird Park, but how many of us actually visited this must visit spot among tourists?
Growing up in Kuala Lumpur, I never visited this place at all despite it's strategic location smacking right in the center of the city.
So of course this is my first encounter with Hornbill Restaurant & Cafe too.
Ambiance
There is no difficulties in locating this restaurant at all, just set "Hornbill Restaurant & Cafe" on your Google Map or Waze, you will be lead straight to the entrance of it.You may have to go through a bit of inner road in the Lake Gardens before reaching KL Bird Park.
Plenty of car parks available outside, at no charge.
The old Malay Kampung House charm.
Outdoor seating area, very shady, but not cool breeze, it gets kind of warm during noon time.
Indoor seating is available too, no worry!
This is the view you get if you opt for an al-fresco dining experience, the KL Bird Park right in front of your eyes.
Since KL Bird Park is reputed to be the largest walk-in free-flight aviary in the world, so do expect intruders, they will grab your food, out of your plate.
Food & Beverage
Hornbill Restaurant & Cafe serves a wide variety of food to suit everyone's taste bud, from local delights to international menu, since this is a popular tourist spot.Mix Fruit Juice, RM11.90
I opted for Orange + Carrot, just perfect for the warm afternoon.
Asian Delights
1. Malaysian Chicken Curry, RM19.10Spicy chicken curry served with white rice & papadum (Indian crackers)
2. Fried Mee Mamak Style, RM17.90

3. Penang Char Kuey Teow, RM16.90
Stir fried flat noodles with chicken, prawns, eggs, bean sprouts and chives.
4. Sarawak Laksa, RM19.90
Rice vermicelli served in coconut curry broth together with shredded chicken, prawns, fresh coriander, beansprout, lime and homemade belacan chili on the side
5. Nasi Dagang, RM19.90
Glutinous reddish brown speckled rice served with tuna fish curry and sliced vegetables.
International Favourites
1. Chicken Chop, RM29.90Grilled chicken chop served with black pepper sauce, sauteed vegetables and wedges.
2. Aglio-olio
Choice of: Seafood, RM25.90 | Beef bacon/ chicken, RM23.90 | Vegetarian, RM20.90
Side Orders
Malaysian usually have big appetite, we usually like to order side orders to share on top of our own dish.1. Pisang Goreng, RM5.90
The famous Malaysian local delights, crispy on the outside, sweet and warm banana inside.
2. Keropok Lekor, RM5.90
Another famous local delights, fried fish finger.
I would say my favorite is the chicken chop, the sauce is special and tasty. Usually I have the least expectation when comes to chicken chop, because most of them just taste the same or simply bland, some more this is a commercial touristy restaurant (in my opinion).
I was wrong, I was amazed by how good their chicken chop tasted.
If you are looking for a different place or companion for your meal, this is the place to be.
