Earth Hour 2017 is happening on 25 March 2017, 8:30pm local time.

What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour is a worldwide lights off events with duration of 60 minutes (8:30pm - 9:30pm) follow participating city's local time.
This event was initiated by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), began in Sydney, Australia back in 2007, which is exactly 10 years ago, intending to unite people to protect our planet.
Over the years, it had grown rapidly and 178 countries participated in Earth Hour 2016.

Malaysia, of course, is one of the participating country as well. You will never see Petronas Twin Towers lights went off throughout the year, but only on Earth Hour, it is really mesmerizing!

Earth Hour grow beyond the hour, it successfully created awareness about the climate change.

Why should you be part of it?

By switching off the lights for one hour, you can contribute in lowering the energy consumption. By reducing your energy consumption and start imposing these small habits into your daily lives, you can slowly make a huge change in the effects of global warming, then we can preserve the planet and able to pass it on to our next generations.

One hour in darkness.

Now it may sounds like a challenge for anyone to live without electricity for one hour, but fret not, here are some ideas on what can we do when we switch our lights off to show out support to Earth Hour.

10 things to do in the dark infographic

1. Digital Detox

You detox your body as and when required, what about your mind?
Why not take this lights off event further? Take this opportunity to switch your mind off as well, leave all your devices aside, challenge yourself to disconnect with social media for one hour.
Take this time to have real conversation with your friends and family, you might be surprised you missed having deep conversation like this with them.

2. Meditate

You are alone? Never mind, you can take this opportunity for meditation.
Let go of everything that bother you, listen to your heart for one time, be the Master of your thought. Just don't fall asleep half way through it. 😆

3. Stargazing

Or simply take a moment to just look at the beautiful city night sky. How often you be able to see how bright are those stars when the city lights are all on?

4. Massage

Not for yourself this time, do it differently, offer it to your family member instead. Perfect time to lit the candles since everywhere will be dark, for maximum relaxation. A hand massage and touches is those little act to show love.

5. Unplugged Session

If you are not celebrating Earth Hour alone, jam with your friends, make your own rave party or acoustic session.

6. Horror Storytelling

Resemble the good ol' days when you and your friends exchange some horror tale with lights switched off in the room or around the bonfire when you were out camping.

7. Long Exposure Photography

Probably my favorite from this list. Swing the light source in the dark, draw a shape, draw your name, be creative!

8. Get Fit

A quick one hour yoga sequence is good, but I'd said be creative, go for a night swim instead.
If you can't stand the hot weather in Malaysia, dip yourself in the pool, better when you need not to worry about getting sunburn.

9. Do House Chore in the Dark

Sweeping the floor in the dark, how adventurous it is!

10. Candle Light Dinner or BBQ

If all else fails, a hearty meal will never fail you. Either a simple meal with loved ones over candle light or BBQ feast with a huge group is perfect for Earth Hour or any Saturday evening!

You can also attend these events hosted around your city, but please make sure leave no trash behind, otherwise the purpose of Earth Hour will be defeated.
